Our Framework
The Becoming U Wellness Education Framework
A comprehensive, research-based approach to building emotionally healthy, resilient students through intentional wellness education and whole-child development.
Six Pillars of Wellness
A Comprehensive Approach to Student Wellness
The Becoming U Framework addresses six interconnected domains of wellness that together create the foundation for student success, resilience, and emotional health.
Emotional Wellness
Students develop self-awareness, emotional regulation, and the ability to understand and manage their feelings in healthy ways.
Resilience
Building coping strategies, stress management skills, and the inner strength to bounce back from challenges and setbacks.
Relationships
Developing healthy communication, empathy, conflict resolution, and the ability to build positive connections with others.
Identity & Purpose
Fostering self-confidence, personal values, goal-setting, and a sense of meaning and direction in life.
Social Awareness
Understanding diverse perspectives, practicing empathy, and recognizing social cues and community responsibilities.
Whole-Child Success
Integrating academic, social, emotional, and physical wellness to support comprehensive student development.
How the Framework Works in Practice
Unlike isolated lessons or one-off interventions, the Becoming U Framework provides a coherent, sequential approach that builds skills over time. Each pillar reinforces the others, creating a comprehensive wellness education experience that students can apply across all areas of their lives.
Regular Compass Check-Ins help students practice self-awareness and emotional regulation
Grade-specific curriculum builds skills sequentially across all six pillars
Common language and practices create consistency across classrooms and grades

The Signature Tool
The Compass Check-In
Instead of asking whether a feeling is "good" or "bad," the Compass asks a kinder question: Where is my compass pointing right now — and how do I find my way back to Center?
Notice
Recognize your internal state
Name
Name it without judgment
Navigate
Choose a strategy to return to Center
Center
Calm, ready
Rush
High energy
Rest
Low energy
Storm
Overwhelmed
Drift
Disconnected
6–12 onlyStudents learn to Notice → Name → Navigate — recognizing their internal state, naming it without judgment, and choosing a strategy to steer back to Center (calm, ready, "home base") from Rest, Rush, Storm, or — for older students — Drift.
The Compass is an original Becoming U Wellness framework. It grows with students from kindergarten through graduation, so a fifth-grader and a junior share the same core language, scaled to their stage.

Evidence-Based Results
The landmark meta-analysis by Durlak et al. (2011) examined 213 SEL programs involving over 270,000 students and found significant improvements across multiple domains of student development.
Follow-up research confirmed that students who participated in high-quality SEL programs showed sustained benefits years after completion, demonstrating that wellness education creates lasting positive change.
