Getting Started
Bring Becoming U SEL to your school — starting this week.
Your Path
From Download to Culture
You don't need a training budget, a consultant, or a launch event. You need a few minutes a day and a willingness to start small. Here's the path from "I downloaded it" to "this is just how things are done now."
This Week
Start with one thing. Download the curriculum for your grade band and introduce The Compass Check-In. Post it where students can see it, and open each day with one question: "Where's your compass pointing right now?" Model it yourself out loud. That single habit plants the shared language everything else grows from.
This Month
Build the routine. Add the BECOME Pathway as your daily rhythm, run your first SEL meeting or lesson, and teach one regulation tool (the Figure-Eight Breath works at every age) while everyone is calm. Send home the first family handout so the language starts traveling between school and home.
This Semester
Make it culture. Move through the units in sequence, use the tiered supports to meet different needs, and loop in your counseling staff — especially before any mental health literacy content. When the whole building uses the Compass, students carry it from grade to grade. That's where the real change happens.
Start small. Stay consistent. Let it become culture. The schools that succeed with SEL aren't the ones that do the most — they're the ones that do a little, every day, together.
